Happy New Year 2012

Happy New Year to all of the MWE Family. I hope you are enjoying your holidays and time with your families. As I write from Crested Butte, Colorado, I'm enjoying the mountains, the snow, doing a whole lot of nothing and taking my son's dogs on long walks in the beautiful sunshine and fresh mountain air.

Our first week in the new building went so quickly. The faculty and the students were so happy with the space, the light, the newness of everything and, especially, having their SPARK Park for recess. We are so excited that the library will be able to open soon after we return in January - thanks to Mrs. Clarkson and her hardworking volunteers for all their hard work.

There are still many things to be done to finish the project. Over the holidays they were going to knock out a wall or two to repair some things, get the ACTIVboard speakers up and running, do some more work on the stair landing and much, much more. As we 'live' in the building we are able to turn in punch list items to be fixed. That means the contractors will still be there. They work after kids leave and until the custodians close the building at night: 3:30-11:00 most evenings.

I can hardly wait for our Grand Opening/Library Dedication on February 2, 2012. Our PTA is planning to follow this event with Family Fun Night so we can have a wonderful afternoon and evening to celebrate our new school.
4:00-4:30 Grand Opening/Library Dedication
4:30-5:30 Tours of the building
5:30-6:30 Family Fun Night Bingo & Teachers will sell dinner for your family

I'm so happy to get 2012 off to a great start and am looking forward to a great new year.

Please forward this to former students and neighbors who may be interested.

First Day at the New School is TOMORROW!!

First Day at Meadow Wood Elementary

Monday, December 12, 2012

Good Morning! Happy First Day in our New School!

We are moved in, getting settled and feeling real cool.

Yesterday is gone...it's over and done...

We are in our new home and ready for fun.

Good Morning! Today’s a fresh new day.

We have new things to see and new places to play.

Today you’ll be seeing all the great new spaces

And I’m thrilled to see wonder, awe and smiles on your faces.

New wood smells, new floors, new tables and desks,

New carpet and windows and all of the rest.

Our art work is hung, done by Eagles of old.

Mrs. Hampton has plans for much more, I am told.

Books on the shelves in their beautiful new home

Are screaming – come read me – come take me home.

As I walk down the halls and look all around

I see iTouches, iPads, netbooks and great sound.

The teachers worked hard to get this all ready

So get yourself going and work hard and steady.

You are all special people and only you can say

“I was there at that fabulous new school on the very first day.”

Be thankful. Feel blessed. Show your gratitude.

Take care of our building with great attitude.

It’s time to get going and get on with our day,

I’m glad you’re all here to share this very special day.
